OT- Ideas for how kids can make money???

Let's see. In our family, my partner and I frequently employee neighbourhood children to shovel our driveway and front walk. We usually pay $10 for the whole thing it takes about an hour.

That's an idea- but it barely snows where I live in washington!!!! (also, I don't live in a neighborhood, we would have to drive to a neighborhood... we live in the boondocks)

I know people who pay kids to pick the fruit off their trees (these are city folks who only have one or two fruit trees in their yard - not people with orchards).

I won't hire babysitters under the age of 16, and they must have a driver's license.

If you have a wonderful recipe for cookies or apple pie or something similar, you might be able to start a small business. It worked for Mrs. Fields.

We have a family of 4 or 5 kids in our neighborhood who started a lawn care business several years ago. They mow, rake leaves, shovel drives, whatever. Now it's expanded tremendously and the money is helping them get through college. Their big business break came when they got deals to take care of the neighborhood common areas (the entrance, park, cul-de-sacs, etc.).

My daughter (14) walks neighboors dogs. Also babysitting this time of the year is in big demand, if your the right age.

I would think a "mother's helper" (babysitting while the parent is still home doing other chores) would go over well this time of year. I know that, as a widowed mom, I find it difficult to wrap gifts, cook for the holidays, do cards, etc with my two little helpers constantly underfoot.

And I think you can still be a big help as a "mother's helper" even if you are still considered too young to babysit alone by some.

What a great idea Linda! Even if she is too young to babysit alone being a Mom's helper is even a greater help.

Another great thing I used to do (from about 9-11) when I was younger, was to buy those rolls of plain white paper and decorate them using sponges, paint, glitter, etc. and sell lengths of it as wrapping paper. A lot of people really like the homemade look for their wrapping paper. You can also make fancy bows, people love having nice bows for their presents, especially when they don't have to make them themselves. I also know a kid who, every Christmas, he goes through the paper and pulls out the actual coupons, not the ads, but goes through each and every ad, and pulls out the real coupons, staples them together and gives them to people. If they provide the paper, he does this for $5, if they don't, it's $6. This is especially good for the day after Christmas sales. I've got a world more (we were pretty creative about making money when I was younger [img]smile.gif[/img] )

I made a lot of money babysitting when I was younger.

Your parents might help you find clients.

I think I would pay someone if they were willing to clean my bathroom and/or kitchen (and do a good job at it! I'm picky - that means I like the toilet to be cleaned and everything). Also, cleaning an area that's self contained like a bathroom is better because you won't have to worry about wandering around the house trying to find where things belong.

On a side note, please be careful! I think it's great you will be working with a partner. Don't do ANYTHING alone, and always tell your parents! There are a lot of people out there looking to take advantage, you'd be surprised. I once had to turn down an awesome job with my school because it required going to meet people alone at odd hours and they had no system in place to ensure my safety. Remember, you can always make more money but YOU are irreplacable.
